How DiSC Boosts Relational Sales

Whether you’re selling a product, a service, or an idea, building a relationship with the customer is the bridge to success.

Social media notwithstanding, old school still works. Face-to-face transparency. Eye-to-eye honesty. Handshake integrity. If relational sales were a game it would be a contact sport.

Relationships take work. Building a foundation of trust in business-to-business sales can be labor intensive, mentally challenging and emotionally exhausting. For starters, what do you really know about your prospective customer? Do you understand what’s most important to them?

How does your agenda connect with theirs? Do you honestly get their vision statement? In your eagerness to make a deal, are you willing to hit the mute button on the voice in your brain so that you can actually hear what they’re saying?

Ultimately if you make this kind of investment in a client, your sweat equity will be sweet! Because once the relationship is established, the sale of your product or service will be a breeze!

One of the best tools you can use to understand your client [and your own strengths and weaknesses] is DiSC personality profile training. Dominant. Influential. Supportive. Conscientious. These are the 4 personality types everyone has in one combination or another. Understanding them can unlock a whole world of opportunities.

For example, if you have a prospective client whose a Type-A Dominant go-getter, you already know you’ll have to hit the ground running and hit every target from day one with this guy. It may be a lot of work, but you’ll have the opportunity to become a sharper, quicker, and more productive professional. So you both win!

The more you understand about what makes your customer tick, the more easily you’ll get in sync with them. And the more clearly you understand yourself, the easier it will be for you to make behavioral adjustments to suit their needs.

When a client or customer recognizes that they matter to you as much as the sale, you’ve just closed a deal and opened the doors to a lucrative, long-term business relationship.

Corporate Team Building Activities at WilmerHale

Our recent Bike-A-Thon workshop with WilmerHale proved once again that the most effective corporate team building activities are relational.

In the world on litigation WilmerHale is a household name and is among the top international law firms in the country. The firm was created in 2004—the result of a  merger between the Boston-based firm, Hale and Dorr and the Washington-based firm Wilmer Cutler and Pickering.

With 1,000 lawyers in 13 locations in the US, Asia, Europe it is now one of the most prestigious and competitive firms in the world. After only 15 years, it has already led landmark cases that helped to shape our country.

Corporate team building activities and personality profiles

We met 40 of their brightest and best at the WilmerHale headquarters in DC for a day of fun and team building challenges.

More often than not, the glue that bonds teams together is an insight into each member’s personality. DiSC personality profile training is the best tool for personality discovery and relationship building. Dominant, Influential, Steadfast, and Conscientious [DiSC] personality types all have something to contribute if you understand what motivates them.

The 40 WilmerHale participants had just completed their DiSC training and were eager to put their new insights into practical use. They divided into team and assembled 6 bikes using communications and collaboratives skills based on their teammates’ personalities.

Each team had to “compete” for tools and bike parts, and their success was based on their new understanding of each others’ strengths, weaknesses, and quirks.

One staffer from London raved: “It was so amazing and fun how you brought us together, and identified our personalities, and had fun with us without ever having met us before. It was truly amazing!”

Corporate team building activities that help communities

Equally amazing was the genuine gratitude of the charity recipient who received the bike donations.

Houston Elementary School in DC is named for Charles H. Houston—a great civil rights attorney. Donating the bikes to this school resonated with the WilmerHale managers because of their longstanding commitment to civil rights and pro bono services.

The school representative literally gushed thanksgiving for our generosity explaining that each bike would transform the lives of the kids who got them—their health, their self-esteem, their social wellbeing! He was ecstatic!

And so were we. Corporate team building activities that make a difference in a child’s life—it doesn’t get any better than that.

Magnovo President, Rob Jackson, Presents Workshops Aboard Cruise

President of Magnovo Training Group, Rob Jackson, recently had the opportunity facilitate training sessions aboard a cruise ship. According to him, it was the best of both worlds. “I was able to enjoy a relaxing vacation and also spend time facilitating workshops; which I thoroughly enjoy,” he said.

Jackson was aboard the Azamara Journey for 16 days and visited eight Caribbean islands. Jackson facilitated several sessions including ones on how to handle difficult guests, leadership and public speaking.

On the trip, Jackson was able to make a large impact on Azamara Club Cruises’ cruise ship staff. His keynote speech on teamwork to more than 500 staff. More than 80 individuals attended the smaller, breakout workshops. “It was a great opportunity to reach so many in such a unique setting,” Jackson said. “I was impressed by the staff and took away several lessons myself from the experience.”

Jackson noted that the staff seemed to have great cohesiveness and worked together well to accomplish a common goal. “One thing I took away from the two-week adventure was how the crew of the ship worked together to provide the ultimate passenger experience,” he said. “As a unit, they accomplish two things; they excel at their jobs and as a team all while ensuring their guests have a vacation they will remember forever.”

Magnovo partners with businesses and organizations of all sizes to provide various teambuilding workshops to their associates. The charity team building events not only develop a stronger and more cohesive team, but each one has a philanthropic twist — giving back through local charities and community organizations. These workshops were created with the goal of inspiring significant, positive change within organizations and communities.

Jackson said this concept directly correlates to what occurred on the ship. “In a way, charity team building events are built on the same concept. They are people working together to be their best as a group, while providing a unique outcome for those that will cherish their efforts,” he said.

Employee Engagement Activities

employee engagement activities

Employee engagement activities vary from professional development to charity team building which create stronger team bonds and breaks barriers to improve morale, and overall soft skills. Increasingly, corporate managers are embracing the wisdom of small group team building. Small teams are the key to employee engagement.

It’s easy to get lost in the crowd when your team is big. You can just blend in, keep your head down, and pray nobody asks you to do anything. But it’s dangerous to cling to your comfort zone. Hiding out can be a professional cop out.

Small group team building can get you noticed without making you feel “singled out.” Instead of competing for [or hiding from] the attention of the big wigs, you can concentrate on getting to know your teammates.

Types of  Employee Engagement Activities

Magnovo’s charitable team building workshops are a great way for a small group of colleagues to strengthen their leadership skills while building relationships with their peers.

  • Bike-A-ThonCharity Workshops  produce new bikes for needy kids and build friendships among the coworkers who assemble them. In a small group, there’s something for everyone to do—a way for everyone to feel valued.
  • Mission: Sports Care! Charitable Workshop  you can collect and donate sports equipment for low-income children who can’t afford the uniforms, protective gear, and other athletic paraphernalia. Result: your professional team grows stronger by making it possible for a lot of boys and girls to join their favorite sports teams. One thing’s for sure: the kids will be thrilled and their parents will be relieved!
  • Mission: Kids Care Charity Workshop is one way to help reduce the financial burden for new school supplies on low-income families. Items such as pens, highlighters, notebooks, paper, calculators, and backpacks are donated. You and your team can practice your collaborative skills while packaging these supplies for some grateful kids right in your neighborhood.

These are 3 ways you can improve the quality of life for poor families in your community. And at the end of the day, you’ll be much richer personally and professionally.

Magnovo Salutes America’s First Responders

emt respondersMagnovo is proud to join the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians in celebrating National EMS Week – May 19-25This year’s theme is “Beyond the Call” and it’s absolutely on point!

There are nearly a million certified, licensed EMS practitioners in America. They include paramedics, emergency medical technicians, and emergency medical responders.  These heroic professionals are on the frontlines fighting for and protecting our health and safety every day!

They’re the ones who come to our rescue before we reach our family doctors, and they deliver us safely to our neighborhood hospitals. From strokes, drug overdoses, drownings, falls to gunshots. They’re right there. When we’re in a car accident, they’re on the scene. When we have difficulty breathing, they are ready to help.

When we have chest pains, they snatch us from the brink of death. These men and women are often our first and last line of defense, but we don’t always appreciate them until we need them.

rescue buddies ambulanceOne of Magnovo’s greatest honors has been working with first responders around the country as part of our Rescue Buddies Charity Workshops.

Rescue Buddies are stuffed animals assembled during our leadership training sessions. The toy assembly process gives our clients real-time experience practicing the communications and teambuilding skills we teach them.

The real beauty of the workshop is that they learn how to work as a team while creating something that will help children in their community. Then they hand off the toys to local first responders for distribution.

Police officers, EMS, and firefighters often encounter terrified kids after an auto accident, a house fire, or a domestic incident. They keep a stash of our Rescue Buddies in their vehicles to give these frightened and confused children something to cling to.

The Rescue Buddies Charity Workshops are one of our most popular and successful events and it’s easy to understand why. No matter how lofty or lowly their professional positions, all of our clients are grateful for the chance to make an important difference in the life of a little child!

Tampa Police Department Accepts Donation to Aid Traumatized Children

Magnovo Training Group had the recent privilege to facilitate a charity teambuilding workshop in Tampa, Florida. In just a few hours, the event was able to create 35 stuffed animals for the Tampa Police Department to use in situations involving children.

Stuffed animals are a small way that children can be comforted and reassured during these times. According to Tampa Police Spokeswoman, Janelle McGregor, the organization is beyond appreciative of the donation that will benefit kids in their communities.

“We are very grateful for these stuffed animals, and the community members who carefully and compassionately constructed them,” McGregor said. “They will help bring a sense of solace to kids who are in traumatic situations, while reassuring the young victims that our officers will protect them from any further harm.”

As the holidays approach, charity teambuilding workshops coordinated by Magnovo Training Group become even more pertinent. “The goal is to create care packages for military service men and women who’re stationed far from home; and during the holiday season, this is even more important,” said Rob Jackson, Magnovo President.
