The Benefits of Team Building at Work

Well planned team building at work should be as strategic as it is on the athletic field—and it should also be equally successful. Both involve the same character building attributes that win games and produce champions.

According to positivepsychology.com, “Sports psychologists can support competitors at all levels in handling the pressures of sports. They can use coaching techniques such as visualization, goal setting, focus, and self-talk to help athletes regain a sense of control and perform at their best under pressure.”

Visualization, goal setting, focus, and self-talk. With customized activities, these same techniques are fantastic for team building at work and will enrich the relationships among your staff and bolster your bottomline.

Michael Ayjian, Co-Founder, 7 Wonders, said “A leader motivates their team by being one of them….Strive to promote collaboration so that everyone involved feels they are making something truly special. Inspiring and cultivating a passionate collaborative team is essential.”

Mindsets build skill sets

Passionate collaborative teams—that’s our goal when customizing our different team building strategies. And that’s because we know that the right team building events result in mindsets that build winning skill sets.

Effective teams that complete projects on deadline and exceed customer expectations all have these psychological attributes in common: commitment, control, concentration, and confidence. And to strengthen each, sometimes team building at work means team building at “play”.

Charitable team building at Magnovo always involves:

  • small group activities
  • friendly competition
  • camaraderie
  • charitable donations
  • fun-fueled fellowship

Bikes, wheelchairs, and more

During Bike-a-thon charitable workshops, teams “compete” for the tools to assemble bikes. Imagine a Nascar pit crew: the fastest bike assembly team “wins” and all of the bikes are donated to local kids whose parents can’t afford such a luxury.

American industrialist and business magnate Henry Ford said, “If everyone is moving forward together, then success takes care of itself.”

With each activity, team members learn to exert a level of control over the situation to maximize their chances of winning and in the process. This means they have to be fully committed to the team, and concentrate on the task at hand while scurrying about furiously to win the moniker of champions of the day.

The resulting skill set development also includes better communications skills, a more adroit collaborative IQ, and stronger relationships with each member of the team—many of whom they may never have worked with before.

Educational pioneer  Booker T. Washington said,  “If you want to lift yourself up, lift up someone else.”

Some groups opt to assemble wheelchairs or  collect school supplies and it all goes to local people in their own community. Whatever the gift, charity is always  reciprocal. At the end of the day, each participant knows that they just invested their energy and a part of their heart in the lives of neighbors in dire need of support, and that gratifying feeling never goes away.

Magnovo’s Rob Jacksoon says, “Each charitable workshop can be a watershed moment for a company.  Friendships and alliances are forged and the overall corporate culture becomes healthier. The true benefit of team building at work? Priceless!”
