JLL’s recent team training event proved that there’s more to leadership than having job titles and achieving business goals.

As a commercial real estate and investment management company, the employees at JLL already knew the importance of building strong communities. But their recent charity team building event showed them that the same skills they use in the office can also be put to good use for those outside company walls.

This large group of about 80 participants gathered at JLL headquarters in Dallas, TX less than two weeks before Christmas. This meeting was to serve as the last rally for the group for 2017 and set a  positive tone for the upcoming year.

The event started with a few warmup activities to introduce the event. Each of the activities was designed to get everyone involved, not an easy feat for such a large group but the workshop facilitator was easily able to earn their attention.

The real meat-and-potatoes came afterward, when the group discovered that their core activity, the Puttin’ Pantry, would be benefitting Brady Social Service Center – Catholic Charities. This non-profit food pantry is dedicated to feeding seniors or low-income families with children in the East Dallas and Mesquite areas.

The group realized immediately that there were families in the Dallas area who might not be getting a holiday meal without their help. With that, the group was all the more ready to start the challenge.

Puttin’ Pantry is a Huge Success!

Each team infused with the spirit of giving, they set right to work earning items to complete their putt-putt courses. Each time was in charge of designing and constructing their own mini golf course, but the real fun came when it was time to test each one.

The entire process of designing, building, and testing each mini-golf course helped to hone team communication, collaboration, and critical thinking skills. But to this group, it never once felt like work.

By the end of the event, Edwin Chinchilla from Brady Social Service Center – Catholic Charities made an appearance to thank JLL for a job well done. Though the event lasted for just 90 minutes, their brief contributions may have made all the difference for local families’ holidays.
